YUV Lab

The project started with hands-on time on the salon floor, observing colourists working directly with the YUV Lab to understand how they mixed formulas at the bench. That real-world workflow was then mapped into the iPad app in close collaboration with product and design, ensuring the experience reflected how colourists actually worked rather than how it was assumed they did.

Lab steps were translated into screens colourists could follow intuitively, without the need for separate training. This covered the full workflow from formula creation and shade control through to dispensing and maintaining client history, keeping everything within a single cohesive flow.

A colour recall system was built so salons could move away from paper record cards entirely, with each client's past colours accessible on demand. Every flow was wired to live Lab APIs, with careful attention given to error handling in the context of real salon Wi-Fi conditions where connectivity could not be guaranteed.

The work concluded with QA carried out on iPads in realistic salon environments, regressions addressed collaboratively with the team, and flows refined and tightened ahead of wider rollout.
